Your Human Design Chart, in Plain Language

Human Design is a map of how you're wired to make decisions and spend your energy, calculated from your exact birth time and place. Your human design chart blends astrology, the ancient Chinese I Ching, and the body's energy centers into one picture, showing your Type, your Strategy for saying yes or no, and your Authority, the inner signal you can trust. It reads less like a fortune and more like an owner's manual for being yourself.

What Human Design actually is

Human Design is a modern system, first laid out in the late 1980s, that combines several older traditions into a single body-map. It takes astrology's snapshot of the sky at the moment you were born, the sixty-four symbols of the I Ching (an ancient Chinese book of change), and the chakra system of energy centers borrowed from yoga, and folds them into one diagram of how you, specifically, are built.

The result is called a bodygraph: a stylized figure with nine shapes down the middle, some colored in and some left open. Those shapes are energy centers, and the mix of filled and open ones describes how you take in the world and where you're consistent versus where you're changeable. It isn't a personality quiz you fill out. It's calculated entirely from the date, time, and place of your birth.

What sets Human Design apart from a daily horoscope is its focus. It isn't trying to predict what will happen to you; it's describing how you're wired to make good decisions and where your energy naturally flows. Read this way, nothing in your chart is a flaw to fix. It's simply information about how you already work best.

How to read your chart: Type, Strategy, and Authority

Three pieces do most of the work in a human design reading: your Type, your Strategy, and your Authority. Your Type is the broad category of how your energy operates. Your Strategy is the simple approach that keeps you out of friction. Your Authority is the inner signal, a gut feeling, a settled calm, or a spoken clarity, that tells you when a yes is really a yes.

There are five human design types, and yours is the first thing to find. Manifestors are the initiators, wired to start things and get them moving, and happiest when they tell people what they're up to before they act. Generators are the builders, running on a deep, steady well of energy that recharges when they spend their days on work that genuinely lights them up. Manifesting Generators are a faster, more multi-passionate version of that, quick to start, prone to skipping steps, and able to juggle several things at once. Projectors are the guides, gifted at seeing other people clearly and doing their best work when their insight is invited and recognized rather than forced. Reflectors are the rare fifth type, roughly one percent of people, who take in the mood and health of whoever they're around and need unhurried time, often a full month, before big decisions settle.

Each Type comes with a matching Strategy, which is just the low-friction way to engage with life. Manifestors inform the people affected before they act. Generators and Manifesting Generators wait to respond, noticing what they're drawn toward instead of forcing a start. Projectors wait for the invitation or recognition that lets their guidance land. Reflectors give themselves a lunar cycle to feel a decision out. Follow your Strategy and life tends to meet you with less resistance; override it and you feel the drag.

Authority is where the chart gets practical. It names the inner signal you can actually trust when a choice matters, and it differs from person to person. For many people it's a gut response that's clear in the moment; for others it's an emotional wave that has to settle over hours or days before the truth is obvious; for a few it's a quiet, grounded knowing, or something that only becomes clear once they hear themselves say it out loud. Learning your Authority is learning to stop deciding the way you were told to and start deciding the way that actually works for you.

The parts of the bodygraph: centers, gates, and profiles

Zoom into the bodygraph and you'll find more detail. The nine centers are the shapes down the middle, each governing a theme, how you think, how you communicate, how you handle pressure, how you connect. A center colored in is defined: it works in a consistent, reliable way you can count on. A center left white is open: it's where you're more flexible and impressionable, taking on the energy of the people and rooms around you. Open centers aren't weaknesses. They're often where you're wisest, once you learn not to mistake other people's energy for your own.

The small numbers around the edges are the sixty-four gates, drawn directly from the I Ching's sixty-four hexagrams. Each gate is a specific flavor of energy or talent. When two gates on opposite centers both switch on, they form a channel, a defined wire connecting the two, and those channels are what actually color your centers in. Together they map the particular circuitry that makes you you.

Finally there's your Profile: two numbers, like 1/3 or 5/1, that describe the role you tend to play and the way you learn. One profile learns by studying until a thing feels solid; another learns by trial and error; another is here to be called on for answers. Your Profile adds the how to your Type's what, the texture of how you move through a life that's built the way your chart describes.

What a Human Design reading is good for

The most useful thing a human design reading offers is a better way to make decisions. Instead of pro-and-con lists that talk you into things your body was quietly resisting, you learn to check the signal your chart says you can trust, and to give it the time it needs. People often describe the relief of finally having permission to decide the way they always secretly did.

It's also a map for spending energy well. If your Type isn't built for relentless output, grinding the way everyone tells you to will wear you down, and the chart explains why without treating you as broken. Knowing whether you're built to initiate, to respond, to guide, or to reflect helps you shape work and rest around how you actually function instead of forcing a version of yourself that was never going to hold.

Beyond decisions and energy, people use it to understand friction with others, why a partner processes at a different speed, why a certain kind of pressure flattens you, and to stop treating their own wiring as a problem. Human Design works best held lightly: not as a fixed verdict about who you are, but as a mirror and a set of small experiments you run on yourself. Take what proves true in your own life and leave the rest.

How Foretold builds your chart

Every Human Design chart is really two calculations, and Foretold runs both precisely. The first is your Personality chart, taken from the exact moment you were born, the conscious, this-sounds-like-me side. The second is your Design chart, calculated from about three months earlier, when the body was forming, the unconscious side that others often see in you before you do. Both sets of positions get placed on the same bodygraph, and where they land is what defines your centers, channels, and gates.

Foretold computes all of that from your birth date, time, and place and draws your full bodygraph for free, nine centers, sixty-four gates, every channel, plus your Type, Strategy, Authority, and Profile, laid out clearly rather than buried behind a paywall or a sales call.

Then the reading is written to your specific chart, not stitched together from generic type descriptions. It reads your particular mix of defined and open centers and the channels between them, and explains what they mean together in plain language, the same warm, direct voice Foretold brings to astrology, the I Ching, and numerology. The goal is an instruction manual you'll actually use, not a diagnosis you'll forget.

Common questions

What is a Human Design chart?

A Human Design chart, or bodygraph, is a map calculated from your exact birth date, time, and place that shows how you're wired to make decisions and use energy. It blends astrology, the I Ching, and the body's energy centers into one diagram of your Type, Strategy, Authority, Profile, and more.

How do I find my Human Design type?

Your Type is calculated from your birth details, not chosen from a quiz. Enter your date, time, and place of birth and your chart will show which of the five human design types you are: Manifestor, Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, or Reflector. Foretold generates this for free.

Do I need my exact birth time?

It helps a lot. Your birth time sets the precise positions that define your centers, channels, and Profile, so an accurate time gives an accurate chart. If you only know the date, you can still see your general Type, but a few details may shift once you find the exact time.

Is Human Design real or scientific?

Human Design is a symbolic system, not a science, and it isn't a medical, psychological, or financial tool. Think of it as a reflective framework, a lens for understanding how you tend to operate. Its value comes from what proves true when you test it against your own experience.

What's the difference between the Personality and Design charts?

Your Personality chart is calculated from your birth moment and reflects the conscious side you recognize as yourself. Your Design chart is calculated from about three months before birth and reflects the unconscious side others often notice first. A full human design reading combines both.
