Yes or No Tarot

Updated

Yes or no tarot is one card, read as a lean. Upright, the picture is available, and this page calls that a yes. Reversed, the same picture is turned inward or stalled, and this page calls that a no, or a not yet. Five cards refuse the job. The button deals a single card. It does not decide your life.

The rule, said once

Upright is a yes

The picture can be used. If you asked "do I send the estimate today," an upright card means the action in the picture is on the table. You still read which action. The Sun is a clear yes. The Magician is a yes that means pick up a tool you already own. Strength is a yes that means patience, which is a strange yes and still a yes.

Reversed is a no, or a not yet

Nothing in the picture flips into its enemy. The card you drew is the card you drew. Reversal, on this page and in the reading app, means the theme is blocked, overdone, or aimed at you. For a yes or no question that is enough to withhold the yes. Call it no when the action would be foolish today. Call it not yet when the picture is only waiting.

Some pictures will not vote

A blindfold, a fog, a hanging man, a secret, seven untested cups. Forcing those into yes or no is how people learn to distrust the deck. The honest reading is: this card will not say. Leave the question open, or ask a different one.

Five cards that abstain

The line is drawn from the glosses this site already prints. It is not a medieval table. Another reader might let the High Priestess count as a quiet yes. Here, she is a refusal, because the gloss tells you to withhold the answer you cannot yet defend.

CardWhy it will not vote
The High PriestessYou know the answer and cannot defend it yet. That is not a reason to give it early. What survives the waiting is worth more than what wins the room. A yes would be giving the answer early. The card forbids that.
The Hanged ManNothing is moving and the position is the point. What you see upside down is worth the delay. A pause is not a yes, and it is not a no. The position is the reading.
The MoonBad light. The dog and the wolf are the same silhouette from here, and half of what you are looking at is your own expectation. Bad light is a reason to wait. The dog and the wolf are the same shape from here.
Two of SwordsBlindfolded, two swords crossed over her chest, water behind her. It is genuinely peace. That is exactly why it is hard to give up. The peace depends on the blindfold. A yes would rip it off and call that wisdom.
Seven of CupsSeven cups hang in cloud, holding a face, a jewel, a snake, a shrouded shape. Not one of them has been tested. The other six only clear once you pick a cup. Nothing has been tested. An untested cup cannot be a yes.

Same shuffle as every other draw on this site, described in the methodology. One card from seventy-eight, reversed or not by the same unbiased draw. The gloss is the site's gloss. The verdict under the button follows the rule above and nothing else.

Write a question that can survive one card

Closed, specific, and about your conduct. Do I ask for the meeting this week. Do I spend the money I already set aside. Do I tell her the number tonight. Those can be yes or no because you can do them or not do them.

Open questions disguise themselves as closed ones. "Is this relationship right" is five questions in a coat. "Should I quit" hides rent, pride, and a boss. Break it until a stranger could watch you obey the answer on a named day. If you cannot, you wanted a conversation, and one card will scold you for that by being vague.

Ask once. Write the card down, including whether it was reversed. If it abstained, write "no vote" and the reason from the table. Then leave the deck alone. The tarot hub will still be there tomorrow if you need the rest of the card's meaning.

The Sun says yes. The Moon does not vote.

Two illustrations, from the glosses, not from a client.

You ask, "Do I sign the lease on the smaller apartment." The Sun, upright. Everything visible, and it turns out to be fine. Do not go looking for the catch. The picture is available and it tells you to stop hunting for the hidden problem. On this page that is a yes. It is a yes to the question you wrote, the lease, not a yes to every hope you stapled to the move.

Same question, The Sun reversed. The clear day is stalled or turned back on you. The page calls that no, or not yet. You do not get to promote it to a yes because you like the card's name.

You ask, "Do I confront him tonight." The Moon. Bad light. The dog and the wolf are the same silhouette from here, and half of what you are looking at is your own expectation. Half of what you are looking at is your own expectation. The card abstains. Confronting him inside that light would be you answering a question the card refused. Sleep on it, or ask a narrower thing in the morning: do I write down the one sentence I keep orbiting. That second question is allowed on another day. It is a different question.

Where one card is a cheat

A love tarot reading has four seats because a bond is not a yes. A career tarot reading has five because a job is a desk, a load, other people, and a date. A reading about an ex starts by refusing to deal a card for their feelings. If your yes or no question is secretly one of those, you already know, because you felt clever writing it.

Use one card for the estimate, the lease, the sentence, the spending. Then do the thing, or do not. A lean is a lean. The phone call is still yours.

How a yes or no draw behaves

How does yes or no tarot work?

You write a question that can be answered yes or no. You draw one card. On this page an upright card leans yes and a reversed card leans no or not yet. Five cards refuse the question, because their pictures are a pause, a fog, a blindfold, a secret, or a set of untested wishes. The lean is not a guarantee.

What does a reversed card mean in a yes or no draw?

The same picture, turned inward or stalled. This page reads that as a no, or as a not yet. It does not mean the opposite of the card's scene. The Sun reversed is not a disaster. It is the clear day postponed or turned back on you, so the yes is not available.

Which cards do not answer yes or no?

On this page: The High Priestess, The Hanged Man, The Moon, the Two of Swords, and the Seven of Cups. Each picture withholds a decision. A yes would be a lie about the picture. This is a rule of this page, read from the glosses, not an old law of the deck. Other readers draw the line elsewhere.

Can I draw again if I dislike the card?

Not for the same question on the same day. A second card is not a recount. It is a new event, and you will keep the one you wanted. Wait until something in the situation has changed, or until you can write a genuinely different question. Disliking The Moon is not a change.

When is one card the wrong tool?

When the question is a person, a job, or a grief. Will they come back, will I be hired, should I leave a marriage: those smuggle a life into a yes. Use a love reading, a career reading, or a reading about an ex. One card is for a closed question you could act on this week.

Other ways to ask

When one card is too small

A yes or no is a lean. A full reading is a letter to a harder question. Foresight, not fate.
